Xmas switch on

Saturday 27th November sees Arnold’s Christmas lights switch on event. This will entail the temporary closure to vehicles of the pedestrianised part of Front Street between its junctions with High Street and Worral Avenue, and The Market Place from Hallams Lane to Front Street, from 08:30 until 10.00pm.

Trojan bus hailed a success after drop in vandalism of Nottingham buses

VANDALISM of Nottingham City Transport buses by stone throwing has plummeted since the introduction of a ‘Trojan’ bus by police and the Respect for Transport campaign. The ‘Trojan’ double-decker looks exactly like a normal Nottingham City Transport vehicle as it drives down the road – except that its windows are made of toughened glass, its passengers are plain-clothes police officers and two marked and unmarked police cars are on call in the vicinity. Since April, the Trojan bus has regularly been making trips around Nottingham. Police officers and NCT believe the Trojan bus has had a deterrent effect on would-be vandals because of publicity surrounding its introduction.

Family Employment Initiative

This project has recently expanded into the Killisick area following successful delivery across parts of Derbyshire. An innovative partnership, it is hosted by the Coalfield Regeneration Trust alongside key partners including Nottinghamshire County Council and the regional development agency.

The project will support unemployed people and their families in Killisick. The Family Employment Initiative offers a free, confidential, no obligation, service helping individuals to find their ways into employment. It can offer a range of services including, supporting individuals to find a job, using IT to search for jobs, CV preparation, assistance in completing application forms, support for attending and preparing for interviews. Experienced Advisors can help in establishing how a job will affect benefits including tax credits and child care tax credits, helping with initial costs when accessing training and/or employment such as travel, childcare and other related costs.

The Advisor working across Killisick is Bev Walker. Bev brings a wide ranging experience in helping people back to work and appreciates how difficult it can be for families. People can give her a call for an appointment to have a chat at the Killisick Community Centre or somewhere else easy to get to in order to explore what options are open to them.

Go on do it today – ring Bev on 0797 655 8256.

Killisick Community Day

September saw a rather wet day chosen for another community event at Killisick. Organised through the Arnold & Killisick Residents Association in conjunction with teams from the Borough and County Councils and the police, the event was sponsored and attended by councillors representing the area. It was also attended by local MP, Vernon Coaker.

On the day, local groups and organisations offered information through a range of stalls in the Community Centre. Some planned outside activities were unable to take place because of the weather, but the climbing wall was attempted by some in between showers as these photos show.

The Play Forum put on indoor activities for youngsters and in the hall of the Beacon Baptist, other indoor and healthy eating activities for youngsters took place. The police were also on hand to discuss matters locally.
