Coming soon – Wifi! What is Wifi? Well – it’s a technology which allows you to use the Internet wirelessly. An aeriel that is attached to a broadband telephone line transmits a signal that can be picked up by a Wifi enabled device without that device being plugged in to a data point. Devices can include lap tops, mobile phones and games consoles. Provided your device is Wifi enabled you can bring it in to the library, turn it on and use the Internet. Customers will need to have a library card. If you’re not already a library member joining takes just a minute of two while library staff add your details to our records. Use of Wifi will be free. Keep your eyes open for signs of its arrival. If you’d like an introduction to Wifi, once installed, call into the Library and we will show you how to get started. We also hope to offer demonstrations of how to use our new electronic library catalogue and the Archives catalogue. You can use the library catalogue to look up all the library stock in Nottinghamshire, order items, check which items you already have on loan and renew the loan period if you want to keep them longer. If you’d like someone to show you how it works or how to use the Archives Service catalogue we’ll be taking bookings shortly. Drop in to Arnold Library or give us a call on Tel: 0115 9202247. If you have Internet access at home you can use the library catalogue by entering www.nottinghamshire.gov.uk/nelib2 TRY IT at Woodthorpe Library (Wensley Road, Woodthorpe) On Friday 17th October from 2.00 – 5.00 p.m. Woodthorpe library will be offering some basic computer awareness sessions for anyone new to using a PC.
