Building Better Communities is the BBC in question and is a programme established by the County Council to encourage and undertake local improvement schemes. These are expected to be jointly supported by local people and their county councillors. Schemes compete against each other for funds from a pot of money set aside for the programme and the successful ones go forward.

In the next set of schemes the Arnold North division is set to benefit through a number of successful bids. Footpaths in the Hobbucks area are to be enhanced, enabling this natural and educational environment to be improved.

The shop frontages at Beechwood Road are to be given a facelift with work to steps, walls and parking areas. The Beacon Baptist is to have a security fence erected to protect the premises from vandalism and youngsters from harming themselves by climbing on roofs.

Further BBC schemes are being examined for other areas such as Warren Hill, in the onington ward, where residential parking causes problems for residents. In this area too, footpath improvements around the perimeter of Bestwood Country Park near to the
Emmanuel Church might tie in with church and community improvements. At this point these are at the investigative stage.
