WHO TO CALL ……Local highway work transferring to county council
Works on roads, pavements and footpaths currently carried out be Gedling Borough Council will transfer to Nottinghamshire County Council from 1 April 2005. These works include street light repairs, mending potholes, winter gritting, highway inspections and similar activities. Street cleaning services are not part of the transfer and are not affected by the change – this service remains with Gedling Borough Council. Christmas lighting will also remain a GBC responsibility.

The change is being made after Gedling Borough Council decided in September 2003 to hand back its Highways responsibilities to the County Council (in Law, the County Council is the Highways Authority).
Residents should see very little change in the service they receive, although they will need to telephone different contact points (see information below).
Gedling Borough Council Grounds Maintenance employees will continue to maintain grass verges for the County Council. There is also an agreement for Gedling Borough Council to carry out graffiti removal and fly tipping on highways.
From 1 April 2005, 0115 977 3377 is the new number to call:
To report a broken or faulty streetlight
To ask for a grit bin
To report a pothole or other defect on the road
To report flooding roads
To ask for a dropped kerb to be installed
To report broken traffic lights, bollards or roadsigns
To request road drainage cleaning
For queries about trees alongside roads
